This and that.

As I sat in my office, this big fat cloud line rolled in and stretched all the way up to my house. This shot was taken with my iphone and using Instagram....I've got to learn more about the app before I pass judgement - but not a bad start.

Same day - heading home, as I sat in my truck this big fat cloud line rolled in and stretched all the way across the west Maui mountains. This shot was taken with my G11 and it passed the test years ago!

The bits for the birds looked almost as good as the bits I used to make a scrumptious dinner.

It wasn't my birthday, but it felt like it in the hat.

Black light, white teeth.

After my early morning surf sessions, this is always my reward (Instagram jobby).

Despite the warning, my soft shoulders strayed off road.... no fruit bowl and latte reward for that.

Wailea at dusk, the film festival delivered magically again this year.

I pass this sugar mill twice a day during the week, but rarely at night and was drawn to the 'flashlight under the chin' affect on the green barn.

A nice bit of symmetry and more subdued tones in Kahului.

Ahhhhh but five minutes from my house, nature always wins by getting the architecture, design and color right every time.

"Don't quote me".

"Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it". Confucius.

This feels like a good representation of my transition and transformation. I know I'm on the right path, but have often wondered at what point on my journey am I?

And in the end, as we all know it doesn't matter because the joy is in the journey and there will always breakthroughs and clarity.... followed by new paths.

I love this contrail underlining the moon, whose Latin name is luna and from which lunatic is derived. The ancients believed that lunacy fluctuated with the phases of the moon....it's been my experience that waxing and waning is not necessarily required.

OK- back to basics, yes, you are seeing double.... double trouble.

As for this....just make up your own story!

Put your paws up and rest a while under the palapa, and as I started with a quote, I'm going to end with one.

"We do not need to be in a hurry, and there is no time to waste." Miguel Ruiz.

Weekend reflections.

It's late February and I was long overdue for a whale watch. While the rain drizzled down in Makawao, I headed out in the early morning to Kihei with the hopes of finding both the sun and the giants of the winter water migration.

The whales breached alright, but were way too far for off for us to paddle out and meet them. Meanwhile, Nancy and I had a close encounter of a smaller kind. Unfazed by our presence, a pair of big turtles breathed heavily on the surface and floated alongside us for a while.

......before diving gracefully into the depths below.

Meanwhile on the North shore, the gusty east winds blew and I expressed gratitude for my diverse home in the middle of the Pacific ocean.

As I sat at Sugar Cove with a friend sharing the ups and downs of life, her small son boogie boarded with confidence in the sloppy surf. All of us getting our needs met, lightening up with support of nature and each other.

Earlier in the day a friend asked me "do you cook for yourself"? "I do", was my reply.....cauliflower pasta anyone?

Pineapple express.

Not too shabby, my home in the middle of the sea.

A $20 reward, or beer of your choice for some lost yellow plaid board shorts, really? Though thumbs up for the drawing.....which helpfully gives you a perfect visual of what 100% of the one pocket version look like.

I don't think he's our man.

Maybe Cozmo knicked'um for the beer reward, because looking at his belly I think he's been overindulging. He needs some exercise.

Perhaps I should take him for a run in the desolate and fallow pineapple fields.

Clearly some of the fruit didn't get the memo that they are no longer a viable crop on Maui.

While others weren't so lucky.

You never know what beauty you're going to encounter on a ride, I love the amber, green and pink colors that seemingly appeared out of no where.

My ride back reminded me of the classic song by Supertramp "Take the long way home".

Thursday.

6:20 am and despite the web saying 'calm' the wind was already on the surf.

Of course the cat's at Kanaha don't give a shit about the conditions, just the perch opportunities.

A higher vantage point seems to be the order of the day, rise above and get a new perspective.

These guys are dialed in seasoned veterans and can play in anything.

Exhibit A, something out of nothing.

It's the real thing.

As is this, which is not two trees, but one taking the concept of branching out to a whole new level.

Spoil sports.

That's more like it.

Peace, love, ease and flow. Over and out.

Green peace.

I love living in a green world.

Glorious stuff.

Yet, as I like my particular patch of green to be neat and tidy I mess with the eco system. The chainsaw, clippers and manual labor produce substantial piles of green waste, which I should compost, but guiltily don't. Instead I make a monthly dusty, dirty trip to the land fill and am left with truck-bed full of displaced bugs for my trouble.

A clever friend with a much more evolved recycling sprit than mine (and a green thumb) surprised me with these the other day. I like 'um and may have to give her my old Doc Martins so they can have a new lease of life.

The smart choice is clearly to be an Octopus tree and live on the side of a cliff, over looking the coral reef and out of reach from people like me.

Someone not out of my reach was poor Cleo. I rudely awoke her from what must have been a deep nap because rather than scampering away as I grabbed my sails, she remained in place as I pulled both them and her out into the sunlight.

Ohhhh did somebody mention a deep nap? 'Tis one of my favorite things on the plant to do and there's no time like the present. See you in...a....few....minzzzzzzzz.
