Juan in a million.

I can’t help myself; I’m like a bloody parrot, if I don’t say it out loud I do think it in my head every time I see him. Probably because there aren’t many Juan’s in Leeds….

Anyway this HOT (he told me to say that) Latin artist is my lovely friend Juan (in a million) and he is a creative & delightful soul. Not only is he a talented architect but also he’s smart, humble, sincere, kind, thoughtful, funny, athletic, great with kids and your all around good mensch! We popped in to the gallery opening after a fun dinner, it was the perfect dessert-extremely low calorie and free!

I’m the new girl, I’ve only been meditating with Denise, Nancy & Alexis every week for four years……they’ve been at it for fifteen to twenty. It's quite simply a two fold joy for me. The first being to commune with my higher self and the second to bond & connect with these magnificent women. I’m truly humbled and honored to be one of the four corner stones of our pyramid of truth & love. We make up our own rules, two of them being chocolate and tobacco are welcome! It’s meditation with a twist, shaken, not stirred because God only knows you wanna kick back and have a laugh as the universe delivers your lessons with such irony and humor.

Despite repeated attempts, Peter & Ely failed to pick up the BBC World Service….

Waxing lyrical.

Water on a waxy surface is one of those things that gives me a little thrill. I’d taken the wax off my board a few weeks ago and when I paddled out with only 2 layers of clean wax on my board instead of 24 dirty ones…mmmmm. There it was, that little pleasurable moment as water puddled up on my board. I used to get the same thrill when I polished my truck and then drove off with bravado into the first rain (or more likely dust bowl). Looking out onto the bonnet of my truck it seemed immune from anything dirty. But I don’t do that polishing business any more, there’s too much fun to be had.

Wailea Sunset.

Nuff said.....

He's/She's back!

I have to wonder if my friendly neighborhood praying mantis is the same creature from a few weeks ago? I have no way to tag it, other than the lens of my camera. How amazing is this insect that it can stand vertically, balancing its big ass body on such wee high heals in a great big wind?! I have so much to learn…..

Big Drip.

I was sitting at Launiopoko watching the world go by and noticed the faucet was dripping. “Perfect blog pici” I thought! No worries-I was a good citizen and turned it off before returning to my towel.

Proboscis hibiscus.

Not strictly its Latin name.......but it rhymes nicely!

Eyes in the back of my head.

I went for a little surf sesh after work today and as I was unloading the board from the back of my truck, here was this eye-catching image. Nice little peeling waves in front of me and the West Maui Mountains bejeweled in a rainbow to my back.

I have to say I never get tired of that view whilst sitting on my board. The blues of the water and sky contrasted with the greens of the mountains and palm trees. While the rhythm and tempo of the colors change, the music they make is always tantalizingly appropriate.

Here is the sunset from today’s little session. The reason I posted this was because if you've had at least one beer, it looks like three pieces of the same torn photo (laid out with a slight lean to the right!). Whilst its kinda obvious those are palm trees dissecting the image into thirds…I can be a bit peculiar & I like forcing my eyes & mind to see it another way.

The Mexican Limo....

Enough of the flora & fauna……here’s a little transportation moment from a few years ago. What a dangerous piece of fun this was! Tequila anyone?!

Fruits of my labor.

Yahoo-it’s happening. In my on going quest for the perfect tomato, the seeds Giampaolo brought back from Italy are starting to germinate (I just love that word!).
And while this little fellow might not be the handsomest papaya of them all, he is mine! Breakfast of champions, along with a cuppa of course.

Beauty or beast?

These Kahili Ginger are actually native to India; they are stunning, large (note spify hand shot to prove my point!) & fragrant but it's actually an invasive species. I’m not sure (given its origins) why it has a Hawaiian name, perhaps because kahilis are the long ceremonial poles decorated with feathers and plumes used by Hawaiian royals. Anyway-this pest forms dense clumps in native forests, smothering young plants and preventing native seedlings from establishing. Bummer......

These are invading my garden right now and wild weed or not, I like’um!

I was sitting at work a few weeks ago watching this little chappy (or chapette) hanging out on the railing and just had to test the macro.....I still don't quite have it sussed. Note to self: Must go & butter up Uncle Ulli with a new copy of "Hello" & make him spill his secrets!

What can I say-there are burpers, farters, nose pickers, and a myriad of other bodily function categories, but we all have our specialty! Here’s a preview of mine.

Look what I saw!

I feel like beginning "Are you sitting comfortably, then I'll begin. Once upon a time......" anyway-here's my little story in pictures. Rush hour pau hana....so deceptively mellow.
All that traffic can cause a few close encounters....good job she's cute!
At the risk of stating the obvious, you've got to be good to surf here....but on a long board....bloody hell, nothing but respect.
I rest my case....here's GP going in on a small warm up wave for the double overhead beauty he caught a few sets later. To read his unique take on this close encounter go to http://mauisurfreport.blogspot.com/

Buddah makes an enlightened drop.....
A little artsy-fartsy visual for the non surf inclined (ugh Mum that's you)!
Dump: "to plunge, throw down, or throw out roughly, empty out as a heap or mass"....well that pretty much says it! This spot is powerful and it was a total treat to see it going off.

Tubular bells.

This young dude pulls a Mike Oldfield. Fuck me, it seems every one had a personal best day at dumps.....me included with this pici!
