Old dog-new tricks.

Ooooooooooo I’ve been having fun the last few days. Between my big floaty board and the gentle super freak sails I’ve actually had moments of “I’m really sailing”. Trust me that's nothing short of a miracle given the number of tantrums and amount of frustration I've created along the way. To prove it here I am SMILING!
For those in the know…..this would have been a great ‘shove it’ if only the wind was blowing in the opposite direction!
Ha.....still SMILING! I’m just so bloody flabbergasted I can sail :-)
Lest I get too cocky, there is nothing like this sport to humble my lily white English ass. Yesterday as I sailed out on my first reach and hooked in, I watched the hook oh so casually keep on sliding out as I hadn't tightened the harness correctly! Mudafaka….I'm assuming there are a finite number of errors to experience and I can now happily cross off #23 “Be sure you've put your harness correctly”. Jesus, that’s kinda like “Be sure to remove the lens cap before taking a photo”! Anyway, I’m counting on not having to revisit error #23 again. Can’t wait to see what #24 is…………….

Finally as this is my first historic windsurf post; let me bore the pants of you with this little vid.....proving (I think conclusively) that people from Leeds ought to stick to the land!

AWESOME!!! What, no loud and raucous WOOHOOO's while you're sailing by? OR is that only me?

#24--heading out on a windy day and getting ready to hook in, only to find you left your harness at home--20 miles away! Even experts do that every once in a while...

Nice water start Sharon, just need to straighten those legs and commit to your gybes! I get such a buzz from seeing Kanaha in videos! Keep up the good work....

Welcome to the Superfreak club, Sharon.
Nice post and performance.
The only wrong assumptions is that the number of errors is finite...

Ely, just to confirm you're right, Dioni Guadagnino lately forgot his boom the day of a video shoot... Fortunately he didn't have to drive that much!

shaz, i love the picture of you laughing hysterically on top of your sail! most people would not be laughing but yelling some profanity when that happens (err yes, guilty I am sure of it!). great to see you getting out there, you're always pushing your envelope, and that's what counts most.

Thanks for the encouragement guys; it makes me feel better knowing the humiliation is spread across all race, gender and ability levels!

I’ll have to wait a few weeks before I’m back in da water (UK trip) but Lano I’ll be thinking of you and your straight legged tip when I do 

GP thanks for turning me on to the superfreaks, love, love, love ‘um.

Trust me Meesh; the profanasourous is still having a run for its money!

Head scratcher-as you always wanted to kite, lets get you hooked up with some lessons in December….I’ll baby sit!

Neoprene is funny….its like wearing a big outlined drawing of yourself; so Mater you’re right my boobs look big but my bum is missing in action!

That first shot just sums it all up really! What a smile. Also on my behalf: welcome to the Superfreak club. A little vid of me on my Freak last Sunday ('the director' wanted loads of splashes and limbs flying all over the place, music is loud): http://www.porrrr.com/s.lurf/oitgoist.mpg

For your trip (if you haven't read it allready) try to read: Bill Bryson's 'Note from a small island'. It gives a nice perspective of Blighty.

Have a good and safe trip!

iHey Robin, thanks for the lovely welcome, do I get a club bumper sticker or something? Your little vid is fantastic; your first rag doll flop is something I’m sure I can emulate!

I laughed out loud when I read ‘notes’ years ago-appreciate the recommendation. Bugger-no sailing for two weeks, I’m already having withdrawals!

No need for the Bumpersticker, the smile will give it away anyway ;-)

You've got such good taste Robin - as I've waited two years - I am so looking forward to seeing that smile on Sharon's face when I collect her at Leeds/Bradford airport tomorrow.
